Frequently asked questions about digital waste shipments

  • What is DIWASS and when does the digital obligation apply?

DIWASS (Digital Waste Shipment System) is the central EU IT system for the digital processing of cross-border waste shipments. From 21 May 2026, all parties involved are obliged to handle their processes exclusively electronically via DIWASS and the connected national systems (authorities) and the user-friendly software solutions such as ZEDAL International.

  • Can I start before 21 May 2026?

Absolutely! We recommend starting the changeover early . This allows you to test your processes, train employees and utilise the efficiency gains of digital processes right from the start. Many of our customers are already working digitally with ZEDAL International.

  • Does the digital obligation also apply to Annex VII?

Yes, from 21 May 2026, the Annex VII form must also be submitted electronically to the authorities. Annex VII is already integrated in ZEDAL International - so you can already use it digitally today.

  • Is ZEDAL International interoperable with DIWASS?

Yes, we guarantee our customers the complete interoperability of ZEDAL International with DIWASS. This ensures a seamless connection to the EU system - for authorities and companies alike, without any changes to the familiar operation.

  • What procedure applies to approved notifications that go beyond 21 May 2026 or are submitted in paper form before the deadline?

Notifications for which the competent authority of destination has issued an official confirmation of receipt before 21 May 2026 will continue to be processed in accordance with the provisions of the currently valid EC Waste Shipment Regulation (EC) No. 1013/2006.
